How have the axes of power in Latin America been transformed?

Nicole Pichardo, an activist from the Dominican Republic, tells us in this conversation with James García how she believes the axes of power in Latin America have changed.

'I would say that power is changing, but it has not yet reached the optimal level of democratization. Before, we had the main actors, such as politicians and journalists. Now, power is shared. Now, everyone can make a live video from their cell phone telling an experience. As an activist, I have been in moments that are historic in nature and the most famous newspaper may say one thing, but my live broadcast showed something else. That is a very small example of how power is changing.'

James García, for his part, tells us about the importance for the different institutions of a country to know the opinion and perception of the people through media such as social networks. “When we talk about the transfer of power axes, it is the fact that today no one would think of governing a country or a company by turning their back on social networks. I feel that sometimes governments, state institutions, private institutions make decisions based on what the perception and reaction of all those people who did not have a voice before and now have one will be.”
