  • If you are taking any prescribed medication, ask your doctor for a brief description of it and the reason for taking it. It would also be a good idea to consult the embassy or consulate of the country you are visiting about the legality of bringing certain medicines or drugs into the country.
  • If you are packing your suitcase to travel to the Dominican Republic, don't forget:

Also, the international certificate of vaccination against yellow fever, if you return from Brazil or undertake a trip to that country. It is recommended to have the malaria vaccine if you visit the Dominican Republic.

911 is the National Emergency and Security Response System. A single number concentrates all the events that require immediate attention or treatment with the idea of ​​providing citizens, residents and visitors with the attention required in matters of security and public service.

Mobility:

If you are traveling in the Dominican Republic, be aware of the speed limits. This way you can protect yourself and others:

  • Urban areas: 35 km/h.
  • Roads and motorways: 80 km/h.

The main routes include:

  • Juan Pablo II Highway: 106 km connecting Santo Domingo with Samaná.
  • San Pedro de Macoris – La Romana Highway: 100 km.
  • Coral Highway: 70 km from La Romana to Punta Cana.
  • Santo Domingo Ring Road: 72 km linking the ports of Haina and Punto Caucedo.

You can use the Santo Domingo Metro. You can buy a ticket for a whole day for RD$80 (1.37 dollars)

Intercity buses: connect to Santo Domingo, Santiago, Puerto Plata, Sosúa, La Romana/Casa de Campo. The buses are modern and have Wi-Fi and movies. Prices range from RD$200 to RD$500 (4-9 dollars) one way.

There are minivan services within the city.

Health:

Although no specific vaccine is required, some of the recommended vaccines for visiting the Dominican Republic are typhoid fever, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, rabies, TDaP (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) and influenza.

Remember to check before traveling if you need to have a COVID-19 test to enter the country.
