Is living alone a long-term choice?

January 16, 2021 Be healthy

Nowadays, solitude as a way of life is an increasingly common trend that generates a perception of freedom, based on practices of love, reflection and self-care; connection with new learning experiences, artistic or recreational activities and connection with a varied and broad social exchange. However, are there risks with this choice?

“Individualization – writes Patricia Isabel Uribe Díaz in a article - is closely related to modernity, which leads to positioning the individual from a perspective of self-determination." Self-love, academic growth and free development of personality are some of the reasons that seem to justify the choice of a home one-man (Concept mentioned in the Trends & Challenges Magazine, and which refers to people who decide to live alone).

However, these qualities are not long-lasting and people who aspire to a detached life are more prone to deteriorating health over time, according to the specialized magazine Geriatric care, "Loneliness favors increased risk of suffering from metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular problems, sleep disorders, depressive disorders, cognitive impairment, low self-esteem, suicidal ideation and desire for death.”

Our human nature is social in nature and the formation of support networks or permanent family ties ensures that we live shared experiences that enrich our lives and protect our health. Choosing to build a shared life project enables us to have better living conditions.

Making these types of decisions can be a great investment if we plan our future in the company of specialists and experts.
