The writer and philosopher shares an inspiring talk in which he highlights the power of life in society to navigate through this time of uncertainty.
Imagining the world opens our eyes to possible futures, while taking lessons by the hand and caressing hope along the way. For this reason, In the midst of uncertain times like the one we are living in, conversations become places not only of inspiration and refuge, but also of encounter and construction.
The evidence of this is in the reflexión that the writer and philosopher Fernando Savater shares with us through the series of conferences from which, in alliance with the OR Festival, we seek to open the field to the creative and social power of the collective imagination. In this talk, Savater speaks to us from his home in the Basque Country, Spain, about the “revelations” that the unprecedented moment we are going through as humanity is leaving us with.
This is precisely what the author insists on: we are going through this together, in society, and this is precisely our best tool to fight against the vulnerability that embraces us today. , he says.
And that society, he tells us from his intimate space, is built on knowledge, science and solidarity, three essential elements today to overcome adversity, contain the spread of the virus and give meaning to the apparent loneliness that surrounds the planet, but also so that, when we return to what we conceive as normality, we live "on purpose and deliberately."
For him, this extraordinary situation brings with it generous lessons that invite us to return to the simple, rewrite our priorities, enjoy life more and vibrate in complicity with others. From having time for reading and humor, and incorporating science and art into our daily lives, to cultivating the virtue of gratitude: all of this can be experienced both in confinement and in freedom.
“Perhaps we gave too much importance to money and prestige. The tenderness of a caress, human warmth, a kind word, a joke told at the right time, conversation, a walk by the sea or in the countryside, a good wine and sharing a meal with friends… We will value the basics of life more.”, concludes.
