We all need to get some sun. And it's not just for fun; getting some sun is essential for the body to process vitamin D. So what should you do during lockdown? We'll tell you:

Lockdown has become the most effective tool to date to fight the spread of viruses and diseases with unknown cures. But, in addition to being a great tool for containment, it represents other types of risks, such as, for example, a possible deficiency of vitamin D in the body.

Why? Because the majority of this vitamin is produced thanks to the way our body receives sunlight, and being indoors means not receiving natural light during the day.

Why is this vitamin so important in the body?

  • Vitamin D is responsible for promoting the absorption of calcium in the intestine.
  • Its presence is essential for the growth and development of bones in children.
  • Helps reduce bone mineral loss in postmenopausal women.
  • It is what fixes calcium in the bones so that it is not eliminated with urine.
  • It is also involved in other biological functions. Muscles, the immune system, phosphorus metabolism and teeth are some of its targets.

Five reasons among many others to understand that we must do everything possible, without risking our health, to obtain this vitamin.

How to achieve it?

It is not always necessary to leave the house to sunbathe. Being in confinement means challenging creativity and looking for healthy ways to process vitamin D in the body.

The World Health Organization recommends that during these days of confinement we take advantage of the hours of sunshine on patios and balconies. It is even important to do so, even if the days are cloudy. Because even if we cannot see it, the sun's rays penetrate the clouds and reach us. However, we should not sunbathe through the window glass, since this blocks UVB radiation.

Experts recommend exposing ourselves to the sun during confinement between 10 and 15 minutes a day for it to be effective.

In addition to these daily sunbathing sessions, A balanced diet is recommended. Nutritionists recommend the consumption of fish, vegetables, eggs, avocado and other foods enriched with this vitamin. (unless prescribed by a doctor, additional consumption of this in tablets is not recommended).

By carefully following these recommendations, you will be able to maintain stable levels of vitamin D in your body, preventing health problems in your body.
